TEXAS SD-17: DEMOCRAT RITA LUCIDO CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION BY TEXAS RANGERS INTO CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS MADE AGAINST REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR JOAN HUFFMAN
Following breaking news of a lawsuit filed in state district court in Travis County against The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission accusing State Senator Joan Huffman of abusing her power to halt an investigation by the TCBC into shady business practices engaged in by a business Senator Huffman and her husband partly own, Democrat Rita Lucido issued the following statement:
“In a page taken straight from the Ken Paxton-Trump Administration playbook, Joan Huffman has demonstrated a clear contempt for transparency, ethical guidelines, and the public interest by engaging in shockingly corrupt practices to protect her and her husband’s business interests. Not only does this lawsuit shed light on serious accusations of violating the public’s trust as an elected official, but a level of corruption that brings embarrassment to our state and erodes trust in the Texas State Senate as an institution. The people of Texas deserve far more from those elected to represent us. I call on the Texas Rangers to open a robust investigation into these allegations of abuse of power.”
Rita Lucido is a proud Democrat running to represent Texas State Senate District 17. A trusted family attorney of over 30 years, Rita has dedicated her entire career to community service through non-profit leadership and fighting for those most vulnerable among us, and is running to restore trust and accountability to Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris counties and beyond.
